Anti-Semitism and Anti-Zionism

Across the Political Spectrum

Anti-Semitism – the hostility or prejudice against Jews — is on the rise in America, with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reporting a 12% rise in incidents in 2019. While the blending of anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism is present across the American political spectrum, how it presents varies greatly. To educate communities on the trends on the ground, IAN University is proud to host this 3-part seminar to showcase the similarities and differences when it comes to anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist rhetoric and actions.

Part One: Tracking Right-Wing Anti-Semitism and Anti-Zionism, with Aryeh Tuchman

As ADL’s Associate Director of the Center on Extremism, Aryeh Tuchman and his team combat extremism, terrorism, and all forms of hate. What has he seen in terms of right-wing anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism, and what does he expect to see in the future? In this presentation, Aryeh explores the history of right-wing anti-Jewish sentiment and how it plays out on and offline.

Part Two: Christian Churches with Their Challenges with Anti-Semitism and Anti-Zionism, with Ethan Felson and Pastor Todd Stravakos

Christian churches represent a diverse group from both sides of the political aisle and as institutions wield great cultural, political, and financial influence. Throughout their histories, almost every major denomination has also grappled with their relationship with Judaism and the Jewish people. For our third part in this series, we are joined by Ethan Felson and Pastor Todd Stravakos for an in-depth look at how denominations both counter and amplify anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism.

Part three, on left-wing antisemitism and anti-Zionism, coming soon!

Zionism Series with American Zionist Movement

Part One: Young Voices on Zionism

What does Zionism mean to young American Jews today, and how are the next generation of Jewish communal leaders taking up space in the Zionist movement? To kick off the start of our IAN University series on Zionism, in partnership with AZM, we will be joined by several young Jewish professionals who are contributing to the Israel conversation. Join us for a discussion exploring the many ways that today’s emerging leaders are answering the question, “What makes me a Zionist?”

Part Two: Inside the World Zionist Congress

Before the 38th World Zionist Congress (WZC) met virtually last year, IAN and AZM went behind the scenes to learn about the historical significance of the WZC in Israel and in Diaspora communities around the world, what you can expect to happen over the coming days, and how you, as a member of the North American Jewish community, can be a part of the excitement.
